Youth Counsellor: Permanent Full Time Position and Maternity Leave

(contract up to one year)

Dalhousie Youth Support Services provides service to youth justice clients.  We are seeking a Youth Counsellor who is a skilled and energetic individual able to deliver programs designed to develop client skills with a focus on reducing criminogenic risk factors through motivational case management.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Establish and maintain rapport with the clients

Facilitate one on one and group programs  

Achieve and maintain required program outcomes, targets and service levels

Provide case management duties

Maintain client and program files

Maintain accurate and complete verbal and written exchange of information

Collect information for statistical purposes specific to clients and program

Promote and adhere to organizational policies and procedures

Demonstrate ability to model pro-social skills

Demonstrate initiative to work as part of a team to ensure the effective delivery of service to clients

Perform other duties as required

Qualifications:

University degree in related field

Minimum 2 years demonstrated program facilitation experience

Knowledge of the “What Works?” literature and evidence-based practice

Formal training and experience in the application of motivational case management

Current experience servicing youth justice clients and at risk youth

Strong organizational, effective time management and planning skills

Knowledge and understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the Youth Justice Service Delivery System

Analytical ability and effective problem solving skills in assessing client needs

Proficient computer skills: MS office

Multicultural sensitivity and commitment to work with socially and economically disadvantaged

Proven communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

Proven track record in meeting targets and deadlines

Possess crisis intervention abilities and behavioural management skills

Ingenuity in developing alternative strategies to meet individualized programming

Results oriented, highly motivated person able to work independently and cooperatively in a team

Valid Ontario driver’s license with good driving record, current certification in CPR and 1st aid
